Ecommerce Freedom Review (Update): Is Oliver Denyer An Ecommerce Erudite?

Ecommerce Freedom is an Amazon FBA course created by Oliver Denyer that teaches students how to approach Amazon FBA Business model from multiple angles like: 

  • Private Labeling
  • Retail Arbitrage
  • Wholesaling

The main premise behind the eCom Freedom Course is that you’re just a couple weeks away from finding a hot-selling product, shipping this product to Amazon, and getting sales right out of the gate.

Let me tell you this right off the bat… even with the most seasoned Amazon seller and the best product research, it’s not as easy as it sounds – even if you have Oliver himself running your online business.

In fact, very few super sellers will see a profit on an item in its first 180 days of being listed, some might have to wait a full year to see a profit, while the vast majority of beginners will ever break even.

So, is eCommerce with Amazon FBA the right fit for you? 

That’s what we’ll talk about in this Ecommerce Freedom review. 

We’re going to cover the good and bad of Amazon FBA so you can avoid costly mistakes, answer some questions about Ecommerce Freedom, and touch on something that I believe is the best business model for 2024.

Of course there’s good and bad with just about every type of business model, and while there is certainly some upside (which I’ll be going over shortly), I’d like to point out some of the main issues that you’re almost guaranteed to face with Amazon FBA – issues like…

  1. Inventory Management: Sometimes you can run into inventory problems like keeping track of everything and Amazon not entering your products in their system correctly, which can end up with you losing money either by re-ordering products or Amazon not fulfilling orders. 
  2. Branding: One of the main benefits of being in business is branding, which allows you another way of connecting emotionally with your customers. Unfortunately, you have to battle with Amazon since they ship all your orders in their boxes with a big smiley face. 
  3. Customer Rapport: While it’s great that Amazon handles all the customer service, it’s a double-edged sword since you don’t interact directly with them. This prohibits you the opportunity to build any kind of customer loyalty with them. 
  4. Customer Service: Dealing with Amazon can be like pushing a boulder up a hill, even if you do have their phone number.  Customers (myself included) looking for a quick resolution to a problem hate calling their number and getting caught up in their automated system. Their chat feature is better, but not by much.  
  5. Cost Of Shipping: There are many customers who are members of Amazon Prime, which offers them free shipping on product orders. Just keep in mind that shipping cost is only free to the customer, not to you. So, if you have slim profit margins, “free” shipping can be a little tight. 
  6. Inventory Restrictions: As large as Amazon is, they do have rules on how much product you can ship to their warehouses. During the busy season (eg, Holidays), you might not be able to get your products listed in their system which means lost sales. 
  7. Commingled Inventory: This might not happen often, but it’s possible to have your products mixed in with other products of the same type, but of lesser quality. Getting the wrong product can throw a monkey wrench in cultivating happy customers. 

Now that we’ve gone over some of the Amazon FBA (Fulfilled By Amazon) red flags, let’s take a look at some of the reasons why Amazon FBA would be a good option for your ecom business…

  • Lower-Cost Shipping: This is one of the main benefits of working with Amazon. Since they have discounts with all of the big shippers, they’re able to pass those savings back to you. 
  • Faster Shipping: Amazon has a program called Prime whose members are able to take advantage of Free “next-day” or “two-day” shipping. This is a great selling feature and is born out in the amount of money prime members spend on new orders with Amazon – usually $800 more than non-members, which means more money in your pocket. 
  • Storage Space: This can be a big deal for anyone just getting started in eCommerce, because if you want to make a lot of money, you’re gonna need to sell a lot of products, and you’re gonna need a lot of space to house all those products. Amazon takes care of this for you, and they’ve got more room in their warehouse than I’m sure you have in your basement or garage. 
  • Customer Management: Customer service can take up quite a bit of your time, and interacting with Amazon gives your customer other options to address their concerns. So instead of calling or emailing you, Amazon stands ready to lend a hand. 
  • Returns and Refunds: Ideally, all of your customers will be happy with their orders, but if not, Amazon is there to process all your returns and refunds, saving you the time or money from having to hire someone.

Who Is Oliver Denyer? 

Olive Denyer referred to himself as a musician with very few prospects until he found out about Amazon FBA. 

Born in Britain in March of 1990, this 30-something crashed onto the scene as coach with a Youtube channel talking about how he parlayed a measly £150 into £950 in 2015 – that’s about $188 to $1,192 in the US. 

He caught the ecommerce bug and launched his course shortly afterwards.

Are There Better Business Models In 2024? 

Let me first say that the eCommerce business isn’t a bad way to make money, and you probably won’t go wrong by purchasing Oliver’s course. In fact, Jungle Scout says that about 45% of Amazon sellers make bout $1,000 – $10,000 per month.

However, from personal experience, if your goal is to create passive income where you’re not at the helm running your business 24/7, then you should pass on eCommerce with Amazon FBA. – there’s just way too many moving pieces like: 

  • Standing out from the competition
  • Constantly research new and trendy products
  • Dealing with suppliers and shipping
  • Continually optimizing your listings
  • Develop a profitable pricing strategy
  • Counteracting negative reviews
