Vintage Flip Academy Review (Updated): Are Jessie And Tina Rodriguez Legit?

You may have heard or seen Jessie and Tina on their hit HGTV show called “Vintage Flip”. Today they are selling all their flipping secrets in their course called Vintage Flip Academy. They claim that they’ll be able to help you start your own house flipping business in just 60 days.

Tina had no experience with house flipping and wasn’t even starting in that direction. She got her masters and just wanted to be a marriage and family therapist. Jessie already had his eye on the housing market though by working in the mortgage business.

The one thing the two have in common is that neither of them received any kind of handouts. Jessie’s parents were from Cuba and Tinas were just good ole’ fashioned working class folks. No silver spoons to see here.

The two have quite the love story. Jessie and Tina were college sweet hearts who dated a whole 7 years before deciding to tie the knot.

“So we went to college,” Jessie says. “Our goal was to get good jobs. My real estate career on the mortgage side was doing really well. We bought our first house – it was actually pretty nice – and the market just crashed.”

Everything was just gone.

Jessie had to do something he never thought he’d have to. Lie to Tina. He was just trying to do his best to keep food on the table while he was blowing through is savings. Tina had no idea just how much of a sinkhole he was in.

“But the market was falling so fast, I just couldn’t keep up with it,” Jessie admits. “We had no money left. I had to tell Tina: We gotta sell the house or get out of it.”

Unfortunately, there was nothing positive that happened in their first 6 months. The home value dropped by about $150k. They had to short sale since they had no other options.

Jessie was beyond embarrassed. He felt as though he failed his beautiful bride and couldn’t even look her parents in the eye. He thinks that they were wondering just what kind of a failure their daughter had gotten involved with.

Even though they were overwhelmingly positive and supportive. Jessie just could not escape those feelings lingering in his basement.

“I should’ve known better,” he reflects. “I had a good job, and that was my responsibility.”

Tina chimes in. “We were so young,” she says. “We had no idea something like that could happen; that you could lose everything so fast.”

Sure, they hit rock bottom like all the greats. And just like the greats, they were about to have one helluva rebound.

“We rebuilt our company to 10 times what it was before,” Jessie says.

“Through hard work and dedication, we started selling real estate. We started buying houses. We got into rentals and then flips. Construction company. Then of course, the TV show,” he adds.

“It’s crazy,” Tina laughs. “Here we are, 35 years old, with our own show on HGTV. We’re nobody. We’re no different than anyone else in this world. And we’re not special.”

Unfortunately the show only ran for two seasons. But they had a deep desire to keep helping people. They got all sorts of DMs. DMs like “You changed my life.” “I did my first flip because of you.”

It was a no brainer for them to keep sharing their successes and deals they were lining up. Sure, they had their ups and downs. And raising kids was no easy feat, but they just shared whatever their followers wanted to see.

All this had led to them starting up their own real estate coaching program.

“I always knew I wanted to start a real estate investment club where I’m teaching people how to invest in real estate,” Jessie says. “You know, where members can learn online but also come to our office in person.”

Of course, that’s a big responsibility. People depending on you to teach them a path towards financial independence and all. But Jessie came to this conclusion: “Tina counts on me, the kids count on me, we have 10 employees and 20 real estate agents who count on us – I’ve got this.”

So there ya go.
